A little boy was busy at the kitchen table with his crayons and paper. His mother walked by and asked what he was doing. He replied, "I'm drawing a picture of God." "But son," she said. "No one knows what God actually looks like." To which he replied, "They will when I get through with this!"
When life gets hard and we need reassurance, don't we wish that we could see God? Wouldn’t that make things so much easier? And when we’re alone and desperately need a hug or a hand to hold on to, wouldn’t it be great if we could feel God?
Whatever His thinking, whatever His purpose, He chooses to be invisible, intangible. I guess that’s where faith comes in.
Some people think it would be easier to follow God if we could see and touch Him, but I don’t think so.
We see police officers. We see parents and teachers, yet we choose to disobey them from time to time. So I don’t really think that visibility or tangibility is the real issue.
The real issue is the condition of our hearts.
Whether we can see police officers or not, we make the choice to either obey or disobey the law. For me, it’s speeding. I'm constantly tempted to speed. Not like a madman, just enough so that I won't get pulled over. In that same respect, that's the same way many of us, myself included, are when it comes to choosing whether or not to obey or disobey God.
So what am I saying? I guess I’m just saying that although we can't see God visibly or touch God physically, He's still there. And because He's there and He's our Lord, I need to obey Him just as though I could see Him and touch Him.
The bright side:..................Because He IS there, I can also trust Him with all my worries, fears and doubts.
And you can, too!
Selah.
